Diabetes Prevention
One out of every three
children can expect to get
diabetes in their lifetime. For
some ethnicities, the number
can be as high as one in
every two children. This
surge in life-threatening illness
is mainly type II diabetes,
which is 90% preventable 95%
percent of the time. East
West Kung Fu is a member of
the MADDCAP program
(Martial artists Defeat
Diabetes Community Action
Program) and educates all its
students in diabetes
prevention.
Safety Drills
Dangers from emergencies
such as home fires and
kidnapping can be reduced
through training. Martial arts
students work on decreasing
reaction times and keeping a
cool head under pressure.
Social Change
In every community, there will be teenagers at risk of dying through
reckless driving, or drug or alcohol abuse. Through martial arts,
students can learn the self respect, discipline and leadership abilities
to protect themselves from peer pressure, and improve their
decision-making skills.
Bully proofing
Children who suffer from
bullying sometimes decide to
find extreme ways to get even,
such as the school shootings
we are all familiar with. The
increased confidence that
comes with martial arts
training helps students find
alternatives to violence.
Sports
Martial arts students who
participate in sports often
have the advantage of
improved coordination,
reaction times, concentration
and discipline.
Anger Management
Anyone can get angry, but it
can be destructive when
expressed poorly. Martial Arts
students learn to manage
anger in healthy and assertive
ways.
Martial Arts Saves Lives! Self defense is so much more than traditional kicks and blocks. At East West Kung Fu, we take the meaning of self defense more broadly, into physical, mental, environmental, and social defense. Young people who improve their own physical and mental health feel more confident about their own decisions, and everyone makes better decisions when they know how to recognize and avoid danger. Give your children the opportunity to grow in an environment that can save their life and improve the lives of others around them. Give your child the chance to become a leader!
